Jimmy Carter's biggest fan is a 5-year-old boy named Ryan — and he's just trying to live every day like his hero.
In a now-viral video on TikTok, Ryan can be seen excitedly claiming that he's "only sleeping on Jimmy Carter!" How is that possible? Decked out in Carter-themed pajamas (his "Jimmy jammies"), a Carter blanket and a Carter pillow, Ryan was ready to drift off to sleep with the help of the 39th President of the United States.
"He was 3 when he first learned about Jimmy Carter," Ryan's mom, Lauren Ramos, tells PEOPLE. "My mom got my kids a [interactive] president's chart, and after learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, at first he was super impressed by how old Jimmy Carter was."

"Then he heard how nice he was, how many people he helped and how he built houses for Habitat for Humanity," Ramos says. "[Ryan] loved that about him."
The proud mom said her son's friends are "very supportive" of his love for Carter, especially since he's been with the same kids for the last two years in pre-K.
"He is in his last year of pre-K, and he has taught them a lot about Jimmy Carter," Ramos shares.

Aside from his "Jimmy jammies," his blanket and his pillow, Ryan has a few other Carter items — and some have even been sent over by the Carter family.
"He has about four Jimmy Carter T-shirts, a Jimmy Carter bobble head, a Jimmy Carter cardboard cut-out that stays in his room," lists Ramos. "People have been very generous and sent him Jimmy Carter coins and books and other memorabilia."
"The Carter family has also been amazing and sent him gifts like a goodie bag from [Jimmy Carter's] 100th birthday party," Ramos says. "He now has two pairs [of Jimmy jammies] so he likes to wear one pair [and] have me wash the other so he's constantly wearing his Jimmy jammies."

However, one of the saddest days in the last few years for Ryan was the day Carter died. When the former President passed away on Dec. 29, 2024, Ramos says Ryan shed many tears.
"Ryan was very upset when he heard about Jimmy Carter passing away," she says. "There were a lot of tears that day; however, we talked about how Jimmy Carter lived to be 100 years old, which is really amazing, and how he had a good, full life, and how Ryan can honor Jimmy Carter, even though he will miss him."

Now, Ramos tries to keep the spirit of the former president alive in her family by asking her son what Carter would do in different situations.
"We say a lot like, 'What would Jimmy Carter do?' " says Ramos. "And he would be kind. He would include people, he would be friends with everyone."
"Also, Ryan has built a playhouse already with Habitat for Humanity and wants to volunteer when he is old enough," she continues. "But always be kind to everybody and do the right thing like Jimmy would. He tries to be just like Jimmy every day."
