Danielle Brooks shared that her 6-year-old daughter recently lost and then swallowed her tooth

The Peacemaker star, 36, also shared the special way she rang in the New Year

Brooks caught up with PEOPLE exclusively at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Calif.

Danielle Brooks revealed that her daughter recently swallowed a tooth — but said the tooth fairy was sure to show up and take care of business.

Brooks caught up with PEOPLE exclusively at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sunday, Jan. 4. During the conversation, the actress shared that her 6-year-old daughter, Freeya, recently lost a tooth, and things didn’t exactly go to plan.

“She lost her third tooth and she swallowed it on accident,” Brooks, 36, recalled.

“This tooth fairy still showed up,” she added. “She came. Yeah. She flew in literally on a plane and made sure she had her money.”

The Peacemaker star previously shared that Freeya seemingly has star quality.

"She takes dance, which is like tap and ballet, and I gotta see her perform,” she explained while speaking to PEOPLE exclusively on the red carpet of the ABT Fall Gala in October 2025.

She continued, “My daughter performed and she was like Beyoncé, because she kind of found herself stepping in front of everybody and so she really had her own Beyoncé moment. It was really cute.”

While speaking to PEOPLE at the recent Critics Choice Awards, Brooks also shared the special way that she rang in the New Year.

“I hung out with friends and we ate black-eyed peas and greens [and] cornbread [to] bring in the year. Because that for us is prosperity and hope. That's what those things stand for,” she explained. “So I did that with some friends and we had a good time.”

“And I did a game day. I do a game day every January 1st,” she added.

As for what’s on the horizon for the Orange is the New Black alum?

“The next thing for me is Sundance with the film, If I Go Will They Miss Me. So that will be the next thing on the docket. Then we'll see about Minecraft 2. There's a few things coming up … [the action-comedy] It's a Bad Day with Cameron Diaz. So yeah, we got a lot happening.”
