- Kathy Griffin returned to *The View* and opened up about her late mother, Maggie Griffin.

- Griffin said her mom frequently called her out for being "rude" to Barbara Walters on the show.

- "When I was on* The View*, she'd always yell at me," Griffin said.

It's been six years since the death of Kathy Griffin's beloved mother and *My Life on the D-List* costar, Maggie Griffin, but the 99-year-old's legacy lives on through her daughter's comedic recollections.

The comedian returned to *The View* — a talk show she's long said she was previously banned from — Friday to promote her *New Face, New Tour* stand-up act, telling the cohosts that her mom would often chastise her for being "rude" to the program's co-creator Barbara Walters, who died in 2022.

"I still talk about my mom in my act," Griffin told the ladies at the Hot Topics table, referencing her decades of material that often revolved around her mother and father, John Griffin, who also appeared on* My Life on the D-List* before his death in 2007.

Griffin said she loves keeping her mom's memory alive in her shows because "people still like to hear stories about my mom and stuff she would say" to her family.

"When I was on *The View*, she'd always yell at me," Griffin said, noting that her mom once told her: "I thought you were too snippy with that wonderful Barbara Walters. Is there a card I can send her? Because I don't think she's ever had a guest as rude, Kathleen, as you!"

The cohosts laughed while Griffin, 65, recalled an additional memory: "Then she'd come to the show and faint!"

In addition to her mother, Griffin's time with the ladies of *The View *and its various cohosts has also played an ongoing role in material the comedian uses on stage.

Griffin has long spoken about being "banned" from the talk show several times over the years, particularly after she pressed the cohosts to talk about the infamous split-screen clash between Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck in May 2007.

She also famously recounted a story in one of her stand-up specials about Walters telling her backstage on the talk show that she preferred to use Astroglide personal lubricant.

In a 2025 episode of her ongoing YouTube series, Griffin also revealed that she upset Walters when she declined to join *The View* as a permanent cohost many years ago.

"Eventually I said to my agent, 'Tell them, if they're going to offer me a permanent chair, please tell them to just offer me the chair or not.' I keep flying out there, they're trying out new hosts so much, I'm like, I'm done auditioning. Did I get the job or not?" Griffin remembered in the clip.

She continued, "So, they made me an offer, and the offer was for $1.4 [million]. I'm just going to be honest, I had to turn it down. At the time, between doing *My Life on the D-List* and touring, I was making about $10 [million] a year. I had to turn down* The View* because I would've had to uproot my whole life."

Griffin said that, when she told Walters she was turning down the offer, the journalist "did not like that one bit" in the moment. "She didn't care, they didn't up their offer by a penny," Griffin continued. "I think I might've said something like, 'Can you meet me halfway?' And they didn't."

*The View* airs weekdays on ABC. Griffin's* New Face, New Tour* act is now traveling across the country.
