Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird Say Relationship Is ‘Evolving’ After Split: Podcast Future Revealed, More

As sports fans reel from the shocking news of Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird’s split, the former couple have answered some lingering questions about the future of their relationship and their podcast, “A Touch More.”

“We put a lot of thought and care into this,” Rapinoe, 40, said in a video the two shared via their joint YouTube channel on Friday, April 17. “It’s a decision that we made together. We’re still going to be there for all of you and for each other. It’s just going to look and feel a little bit different. We truly are evolving into something new to each other, to ourselves and to all of you.”

Bird, 45, and Rapinoe added that the podcast will wind down, but not before they record a few more episodes.

“We aren’t going to be hosting this pod together every week,” Rapinoe continued. “We are both really sad to be losing this space. It’s been so meaningful to us, especially post retirement, to have this space to share not just together but with you as well.”

“But we aren’t going anywhere,” Bird said. “We’re going to do a little tradeoff hosting six more special episodes of ‘A Touch More’ that will be our farewell to you all and to this space.”

Bird and Rapinoe also shared updates on their individual projects.

Bird confirmed that her WNBA podcast “Birds Eye View” will return for a second season, with the 2026 WNBA preseason tipping off on April 25.

Rapinoe said that after the six special episodes of “A Touch More,” she will host a miniseries around the 2026 Women’s World Cup. Then, over the summer, she will launch a podcast of her own.

The couple met at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, one year before Bird came out as a lesbian, announcing she and Rapinoe were together. They became engaged in 2020.

“There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news,” the pair wrote in a joint statement announcing their breakup via social media on Friday. “After a lot of thought, we’ve made the decision to separate as a couple.”

The statement continued, “This hasn’t been an easy decision, but it’s one we’ve made together, with so much love, respect and care for each other. We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us.”

They also mentioned “A Touch More” in their statement before elaborating in the video.

“Getting to create ‘A Touch More: The Podcast’ and build a network around it has been a tremendous joy,” they wrote. “The conversations, the laughter, the connection — it means more than we can put into words. While this chapter of doing the podcast together is ending, what we’ve built with you isn’t.”
