Rob Reiner son faces charges that could mean life in prison, death penalty
The Los Angeles County District Attorney has announced he is filing charges against Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his parents, the celebrated director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer.
Nick Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder with a “special circumstance of multiple murders,” said District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. The 32-year-old also faces a “special allegation” that he personally used a “dangerous and deadly weapon” — a knife.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, according to Hochman.
“No decision has been made with respect to the death penalty,” Hochman said.
Reiner and Singer were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and “booked for murder,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The 32-year-old is alleged to be “responsible” in his parents’ deaths, the LAPD said on Monday, Dec. 15.

The news rocked the film and entertainment industry; Cary Elwes, who starred as Westley in Reiner’s “The Princess Bride,” Kevin Bacon, who Reiner directed in “A Few Good Men,” actor Ben Stiller and more all paid tribute to the actor and director and his wife.
Nick Reiner is one of three children Reiner shared with Singer. The father and son worked together on the movie “Being Charlie,” which was inspired by Nick Reiner’s own experiences with substance abuse.
The charges are to be filed this afternoon, Hochman said.
